What is the Community Access Pass and how do I accept it?

Learn how members will present their pass and how your staff should respond at checkout.

The Community Access Pass is a digital pass that credit union members save to their Apple or Google Wallet. It identifies them as eligible for in-store discounts or offers through the Community Marketplace.

When a member visits your business and wants to redeem their discount or offer, they’ll show you this pass at checkout. It’s your signal to apply the offer you created during onboarding.

What the Pass Looks Like

  • It’s a digital card with your credit union and Goodbuy branding.
  • Members access it through their phone’s wallet app (Apple Wallet or Google Wallet).
  • Each pass is unique to the member and cannot be used by non-members.

What Your Staff Should Do at Checkout

  1. Look for the pass.
    1. When a member is ready to pay, they’ll present their phone showing the Community Access Pass.

  1. Verify it briefly.
    1. There's no scan required. Just visually confirm that it’s the official Community Access Pass. It will have a clean design and display the member's name.

  1. Apply the discount.
    1. Use your POS system to apply the offer you’ve set (e.g. 10% off, $5 off, or other perk). This might be done using a manual entry or a custom button in your system.

  1. Thank the member.
    1. Many members are excited to support local businesses through this program — feel free to acknowledge their support.

Training Staff

Make sure your team is trained to:

  • Recognize the pass and understand it should be honored like any other store-wide discount or offer
  • Know exactly what the member offer is
  • Apply it using your POS or at the register

Consider posting a reminder behind the counter, especially if multiple staff members work different shifts.

What If a Member Doesn’t Have Their Pass?

If someone says they’re a credit union member but doesn’t show the pass:

  • Kindly ask them to locate the pass in their phone’s wallet.
  • If they’re having trouble accessing it, you can choose whether to honor the discount or offer that one time.
  • Let them know the pass is required for future redemptions.
